Sacramento Vocational Schools

Sacramento offers a robust, growing community that puts strong emphasis on welcoming new industries. The City of Sacramento website claims more than 21,000 thriving businesses in the city, as well as many more in the surrounding area. With an average household income of $64,513, a median household value of $225,900 and population growth of 2.8 percent between 2010 and 2013, the capital city of California is poised for even brighter years on the horizon.

All of this bodes well for students at Sacramento trade schools, who can choose from a wide variety of options when they graduate. Some of the largest employers in the area include those in health care, information technology and banking. Many of the most in-demand positions in these areas begin with a college education; today, at least 39 percent of those in Sacramento hold an associate degree or higher.

To learn more about what Sacramento has to offer, we spoke to Lei Anderson, owner of Delta Metro Realty Services in Sacramento.

Job growth in Sacramento is strong. Which industries do you see leading the pack?

Anderson: As job growth continues to remain strong, government will remain the leading industry in Sacramento. As the capital city, Sacramento's leading industry flourishes as the state and local economies remain strong. Information and technology services have a major influence in the Sacramento area, while I anticipate strong growth in the areas of:

Sacramento's planning and outreach efforts continue to attract visitors for event, cultural, leisure, sporting, and dining-related activities. As the local economy remains healthy, education and health services will continue to grow to meet the demand of these highly sought after industries.

Which jobs are most promising for graduates of Sacramento vocational schools?

Anderson: Vocational school graduates will likely have the most success when seeking employment in health services, information and technology, leisure and hospitality, construction, and transportation. These are all at near the top of the list for industries in Sacramento and California, and will continue to grow with a solid job market and healthy economy.

Are there startups in Sacramento?

Anderson: Sacramento offers a great opportunity to startups. There are many local organizations and programs, as well as state incentives, that provide an encouraging atmosphere for entrepreneurial ventures at any level, with rebates, loans, and other incentives. California is the 7th largest economy in the world and Sacramento is a large part of that.

Why is Sacramento a good option for students?

Anderson: Sacramento is an attractive option for students for many reasons. It is a much more affordable area for housing, transportation, dining, and overall cost of living compared to the Bay Area and Southern California. Sacramento's cultural diversity, along with an international airport, gives students the opportunity to experience a multitude of cultural events and provides convenient travel options to those coming and going. Sacramento is also a great central point for leisure activities with short drives to beautiful Lake Tahoe, the San Francisco Bay area, Napa Valley, water and hiking activities, sporting events, concerts and more.

What is the cost of living in Sacramento?

Anderson: The cost of living remains one of the top reasons Sacramento is a desirable city for students, the workforce, and retirees. The cost of living is much lower in Sacramento as compared to the Bay Area and Southern California. Real estate, transportation, and consumables are much lower in Sacramento compared to the most expensive regions of the state. However, many people choose to live in neighboring cities just outside of Sacramento for an even less expensive cost of living, which provide primarily a less expensive real estate market.

Why would you recommend someone move to Sacramento?

Anderson: Sacramento provides a great option for any student with the large number of community colleges, state and private colleges, graduate programs, and vocational schools. The relative low cost of living allows students to fully commit to their education while also enjoying many of Sacramento's and the state's attractions and benefits. The solid workforce and strong local economy often provides students with valuable internships and job leads for employment opportunities. Students have many industries and employers to choose from in the greater Sacramento area.

Sacramento attracts many people from all over the world to experience what California has to offer. Sacramento is a centrally located city that continues to make efforts to attract visitors. The Sacramento Kings will soon have a new state-of-art arena. The Sacramento River Cats provide a family-friendly entertainment venue for locals and guests. Sacramento takes pride in its cultural diverse dining options as well as it local, organic Farm-to-Fork campaign.
