Phoenix Vocational Schools, Trade Schools and Technical Schools

Phoenix is Arizona's largest city and state capital, with an estimated 1,513,367 residents in the city proper and 4,009,412 in Maricopa County in 2013, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Within the Phoenix region, you can find a diverse collection of communities and cultures in areas like Scottsdale, Glendale, Tempe and North Mountain. And, although many industries are prevalent in the area, the major employers are high-tech manufacturing, tourism, and construction.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS.gov) reports that the Phoenix, Mesa, Glendale Metropolitan area had 1,781,210 residents in the workforce in May of 2013. Because of the bustling tourism industry, careers in hospitality, culinary arts and food service were on the rise that year. Other industries supporting Phoenix residents were technology, business and financial services, construction, and transportation. An education at a vocational, technical, or trade school may be a good way for some students to begin a career in any of these industries.

The following Phoenix employment sectors showed the following numbers of jobs in April 2014, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS.gov):

  • Business and financial operations: 93,390 jobs
  • Computer and mathematical occupations: 59,860 jobs
  • Construction and extraction: 78,770
  • Food preparation and serving: 162,650 jobs
  • Health care practitioners and technical occupations: 93,590 jobs
  • Office and administrative support: 313,670 jobs
  • Protective services: 48,930 jobs
  • Transportation and material moving: 108,620 jobs

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the median household income was $47,866 from 2008 to 2012, slightly lower than the median income for all Arizona residents during that time. The BLS cites May 2013 median hourly wages for in-demand jobs in Phoenix as follows:
